Phi Lambda Delta Sorority
The Phi Lambda Delta Sorority is the premier sorority of the UP College of Medicine. Since its founding in 1969, the Sorority has shared in the vision and mission of the College of Medicine to produce a community of doctors who possess a heightened social consciousness through a firm commitment to excellence and leadership in community-oriented medical service directed especially to the underserved.
The Phi Lambda Delta Sorority distinguishes itself through its diverse activities all-year-round. Upholding the core values of excellence, leadership, service and sisterhood, the sorority gives importance to activities that fall under its socio-civic arm, the PagKalMa (Pagkalinga para sa Kalusugan ng Mamamayan). Benefiting patients in the UP-Philippine General Hospital and several indigent communities, in partnership with various non-government organizations, such activities provide an avenue for each member to acquire a work ethic of professionalism and excellence, serve the community, enhance interpersonal relationships, explore her talents and reach her highest potential. With 51 years of experience and over 900 lady doctors, the sorority has nowhere to go but forward and upward.

Mission
Guided by our core values of EXCELLENCE, LEADERSHIP, SERVICE, and SISTERHOOD, we challenge and commit ourselves to be exemplary medical students and reach our full potential to become five-star physicians by promoting self-growth and discovery, social awareness, community empowerment, and a lifetime commitment to the Sorority.
History
We came into being in 1969, when eleven of us felt the need to bring together minds that refused to be encased into the mold of rigidity and convention that the ordinary female student finds herself in. With this motivation, Sisses Anet Bernabe, Anet Velasco, Helen Mendoza, Celia Genio, Maggie Cruz, Mel Lazaro, Beng Toledo, Zenda Garcia, Teng Ynares, Nemy Pecson, and Lita Barros held the first meeting at 1693 Ma. Orosa St. to pave the way for a sisterhood that will blossom in and withstand the test of time. They named the sorority the PHI LAMBDA DELTA, which stands for “Fellowship of Lady Doctors.” A gold rose and Aesculapius against a dark blue background with the Greek sorority name across the center were chosen as the identifying insignia.
The first year saw the Sorority’s flame not only growing brighter but also blazing under an outstanding leadership of our earliest Superior Sister Exemplar, Sis Thelma Javier Yambao. Many from the different classes joined us, increasing in number and in strength as well. Hand in hand with our brother fraternity, Phi Kappa Mu, we fought hard for our recognition; until finally, the much-awaited recognition was granted on November 20, 1969. In no time at all, we gained recognition in the college and proved our worth by being active members of the school community holding cake sales, sponsoring seminars, winning the lantern parade with our Brods, etc. These activities certainly kept the PHI flame burning in our hearts.
